O Laboratório de Química do Estado Sólido do Instituto de Química da Unicamp vem trabalhando desde 2003 com nanotubos de carbono. Vários aspectos estão sendo contemplados. Dentre eles, citamos: purificação, funcionalização, caracterização avançada, toxicologia, ecotoxicologia, genotoxicologia, produção de compósitos e aplicações.

Estes estudos têm sido realizados via uma extensa e competente rede de colaborações, envolvendo químicos, físicos, biólogos, médicos e oceanógrafos visando, não só o aprofundamento do conhecimento destes nanomateriais, como também, o desenvolvimento de tecnologias aplicáveis.
